Sibra, nestled in the heart of the Cathare country, invites you to live a unique experience; to marvel, enjoy and discover a place that will awaken all your senses.
After three years of careful restoration, we opened our doors in 2021!
The five charming rooms in the castle, each with its own charm, can be booked, in addition to the three apartments in the former outbuilding and the Maison du Métayer.
150 years ago, the former stronghold was remodelled by Joseph and Pauline Villary de Fajac, who created an “Ornamental Farm” marvellously marrying the beautiful and the useful.
Surrounded by a vast English-style park, bathed in romanticism, the “Château de Sibra” shares with you its history at every moment.
Sibra is so spacious that each guest has at least 54’000 square feet to call his own. It warmly welcomes you to spend some time in the unspoiled Ariège countryside.

Follow in the footsteps of the Villary de Fajac couple who moved to Sibra 150 years ago: Away from the hustle and bustle of Paris, to create an Arcadian idyll, oscillating between past and future in the calm of a pastoral landscape.
After a long Sleeping Beauty slumber Sibra has once again become an enchanted place. A place far away from everyday life, its convention, and confinement, evoking distant times, fantastic aesthetic experiences, and deep, unexpected natural and cultural experiences.

Château de Sibra is a property located in the southwest of France in the department of Ariège, nestled in the rolling foothills of the Pyrenees. Like an immense cocoon it is protective of its visitors, while offering at the same time the expanse of majestic views.
The small medieval town of Mirepoix with its beautiful wooden arcades, is located only eight kilometres away, Toulouse, the “pink city” and Carcassonne, a UNESCO world heritage site, are the lively centres of this region.

The host
Sibylle Thomke
has restored the historical heritage and the 37-acre park with great care and shares it with you as a Guesthouse / Maison d’Hôtes.
She sees Sibra as a continuously evolving project, an experimental ensemble of landscape, architecture, history, art, and culture.

Sibra - a vision of the world
Villary de Fajac, created at Sibra a vision of the world. A vision represented by a succession of theatrical interior and exterior scenes combining the useful with the beautiful.
The thousand stagings of Villary de Fajac move between the ephemeral and the eternal, the real and the imaginary, and the past and the present. They are so enchanting and unique that they deserve to be carried into the future.
Today, Sibra is a sustainably and ecologically managed company that combines respect for the environment with a unique look at the past and present. Among other things, we grow our own vegetables in our permaculture garden, and our free-range chickens provide the breakfast eggs.
The buildings have been respectfully renovated, with contemporary elements of architecture, furniture and art integrating themselves naturally into the generous spaces. Artists are regularly invited to devote themselves to their work for a few months.
In the castle, 5 expansive guest rooms are available and the former outbuilding houses three large apartments and a vacation home.
In addition, we offer a room in the former outbuilding for retreats, courses, workshops, and small seminars. It can accommodate 8 people.
During the summer months, the former granary is used as a multi-purpose space. With its imposing roof construction, it is ideal for workshops, family celebrations and weddings. It can accommodate up to 50 people.
The vast romantic landscaped park offers a breath-taking view of the Pyrenees. It is home to an array of plants from all over the world, a series of built follies and a lake.
The park is perfect for contemplative exploration as well as for celebrating lavish parties. A chapel in a grotto with an aisle of roses leading up to it, is perfectly suited for a wedding ceremony. What could be more romantic for such an unforgettable event?

Sibra is open for guests during ten months of the year. On 05 January, the house and the team are set to hibernate for two months. We look forward to welcome you again during the whole season starting on the 1st of march.
